Artwork of Cosmo Jones
I use the act of creation to allow my intuition and unconscious to work problems and ideas that the conscious mind has trouble dealing with without undue attachment. In my paintings, this takes the form of an intuitive formal process. I may start with some degree of narrative preconceived, but that evolves - along with formal elements that necessarily modify the narrative in any figurative image - by actively intuitive processes. Once the image is finished, I can begin to psychoanalyze the painting, and thereby, presumably, my own thoughts. Sometimes this is a process of finding out what the “problem” was in the first place. Sometimes it’s a process of shedding attachment to my thoughts into the painting.
